The puppy is a 7 week old Chocolate Lab. He whines all night in his Kennel. No one ever gives in but he'll still be whining when we have to go to work and he needs to go out and potty. ANY SUGGESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure he's not whining because he needs to go out to potty?

Whining should never be given into because it just reinforces the behavior.

Make sure to take him out before you go to bed. A walk to tire him out before he sleeps would also be a good idea. You can't give in to this behaviour or it will never stop and he will never be fully crate trained. Instead, make sure he is nice and tired when you put him to bed at night and that he has recently gone to the washroom. Give him a treat to get him into his crate. As soon as he starts whining, give him a spray from a water bottle. As a lab, he may not be affected by water, although at 7 weeks it still may be a shock so he will be quiet. If the water bottle doesn't work, use a can with a couple pennies in it. Water bottle is best though. Do not give any verbal command when you spray him, just give spray and walk away. If he whines again give him another spray. If he likes the water, this is when you'd move to the can with pennies. Drop the can when he whines.

Another way to reinforce that his crate is a good place is to only ever let him sleep when he is in a crate. This is hard for us as owners because we want to cuddle with our puppies, but dogs will be happiest in their crates if they are used to always sleeping in them. So whenever your dog goes to have a nap, put him in his crate to sleep.

Good job with persisting with the crate training and good luck!
