I have Vista Ultimate sitting on my desk and I'm backing up all my crap as I type...

you need a 64bit processor to run the 64bit version

also the 32bit version only allows for up to 4gb of RAM, 64 allows up to 16gb of RAM..... theres a lot of advantages to it, but i believe you need compatible software also

I don't think there is a laptop in the world into which you can physically install more than 4GB of RAM. Even using 2GB modules at $400+ each.

Most desktops can't manage that feat, either.

64 bit takes advantage of the extra processing power in every clock cycle of a 64 bit processor. 32 bit you'd be wasting it. supporting the processor in 64 bit is easy, question is does the rest of the hardware in the laptop have 64 bit compatible drivers?

thoroughly check this before you install 64 bit, you might get it to boot, but certain other things (like wireless) might not work under 64 bit vista.
