about health care reform? It seems that there is a HUGE argument about socialized vs. private health care. After doing a bit of research, it seems that countries that have a socialized health care plan (UK, France, Canada, Sweden) have a better quality of life, easy access to health care and they aren't paying more taxes than US. Also, the system here in the U.S. seems to be a profit-driven industry since big corporations own the hospitals, drug companies and other health care related companies - and we all know that the ultimate goal for big corporations is...to make as much money as possible.
So it's easy to see why this has become a Democrat vs Republican debate; the Dems want an "all for one" system (socialist) and the Repubs want to keep the system private to make as much money as possible (capitalism).
But my main question is what's the big problem in having a Washington-driven health care system? We have other "socialized" systems run by the government: The Veteran's Administration, The U.S. Post Office. I realize those are not exactly pictures of perfection, but is it worse than the results we are seeing now: Millions of Americans without health insurance, millions of insured Americans driven to bankruptcy from medical expenses because of denied claims; four times as many lobbyists for the health care industry than members of congress; US ranking 37th on WHO's ranking of country's health care. With a properly set up system, based on either France's or Sweden's system, I don't see a real reason not to have a socialized health care system.
