i have s video on my cable box and my laptop will it work the same as hooking it...

...up to the tv.? im trying to watch movies on my tv by using my laptop my laptop has s-video output and so does my cable box i dnt think it has it on my tv so will i be able to use it the same way if instead of using my tv i use my cable box? and do i need s video input and output for this to work cause both the cable box and my laptop have output
