I have pokemon gold version for color gameboy and i cannot find the squirtbotle i need

to squirt the tree with i think i need a squirt bottle to squirt the tree that stands just past azalea town but i am not for sure, nor do i know where to find one and i have looked in all marts available including goldenrod city. any input would be appreciated, i am trying to help my son.
 
go to the house near the goldenrod gym. talk to everybody there you will get a squirt bottle. you need to beat the goldenrod gym first.
 
you have to go to that like plant house or what ever it's called in goldenrod city there

not sure if you have to beat the boss first or not but still just talk to all the people in there till you get it

or if you get lucky you can just talk to one

i dont know which one it is

i havent played that game in forever so i dont know exactly
