i have no idea whats going on.

Hello-

I am a 23 year old female and on new years eve I had the scare of my life. I had had a stomach virus the previous day, and so I was trying to eat light. I decided wheat thins would be a good choice. About 20 minutes after I ate like...5 wheat thins, my tongue started to swell and it became quite difficult to breathe. An arabulance came and gave me a shot of epinephrine which did nothing for me as far as I could tell. At the hospital they gave me an IV steroid which worked within seconRAB. I have never had any issues with any kind of food allergy at all and I am terrified to eat anything because I have no idea what I'm allergic to. Any ideas? The only allergy I have is to Tylenol.
 
I have a very good friend who is allergic to wheat as it makes her puff up like a baloon. Allergies can come on at any time in one's life. I never had them until 1985 and then they hit me like a brick. Please do me a favor and go to a good allergist to be tested. If it is only wheat you are allergic to, you will be told to stay off that product. Good luck.
 
Have you eaten this particular cracker before? If not, then it's obviously some ingredient that you are allergic to. You might see an allergist and take the list of ingredients with you. If you've had them before, these may have been contaminated, out of date, etc or you may have just suddenly developed an allergy to some ingredient. A trip to the allergist is also in line in this case. Good luck figuring it out.

Took the advice and I'm seeing an allergist next Monday.
 
When I was in my early 20's, back in the late 1960's, I got the flu. It triggered many sensitivities in me to many different seemingly innocuous things that had never bothered me before. Instead of having a swollen tongue, I had nasty Asthma problems. I had never had Asthma before, and I was not allergic to anything for which I was aware. For a long time afterwooRAB, I suffered from nasty breathing problems where I would sit for hours struggling to breathe, sometimes all night long. Nighttime was when my Asthma would get the worst. :eek:

I learned quite quickly that the radiator heat caused Asthma exacerbations. I had to get rid of my cats. Various fooRAB, for which I had no known allergy, now gave me problems. Dust and old books gave me major problems.

I hope that this is not similar to what is happening to you. If it is, you have a long road to travel to find out which things exacerbate your allergies, and to stay away from them.

Allergy shots have been extremely important in my partial recovery from my debilitating, life-threatening allergies.
