I am 17, have been going to the same doctor for the last 4 years. When i first started going, they had the parent go in the room with me.. but even now at the age of 17, my mother still has to be in the room with me the whole time. When they go through standard questions, they ask my mother before they ask me. (even with stuff like if i smoke, sexually active, drug use).
Firstly, I know my body better than anybody else.. so these questions should be aimed to me, and when I said this my doctor acted as if I was 5.
Now, I had to go in to get a pap spear and to be put on birth control.. and the doctor had my mother in the room. Personally I think that is aganist my rights as a patient, even though I am under 18... I am entitled to some rights correct?
My mom has even said she'll wait in the waiting room... and they told her she couldn't. I looked up, and I believe it's hippa laws that give me confidentiality rights. Does this is include me because i'm 17?
I live in Louisiana... if they have some weird law or something let me know. But honestly.. I just think it's absurd that it's like this.
