I think the more important concern is what kind of file do you have on your computer and what kind of DVD player you have.
If you have a DVD player that's capable of playing DivX encoded AVI files, then all you need to do is burn the file(s) onto a recordable CD or DVD (both will work), and your DVD player can play them.
On the other hand, if you have a WMV or some other kind of video file, then you will need some kind of software to convert the files into a format that your DVD player can read. This is usually a time-intensive process (the conversion to DVD format), and you will have to investigate different software programs that might be able to perform this task.
