...not... What is it? I used to run hills and bike frequently for long distances, and had to stop because of pain that develops if I do either of these activities, or even walk, for a prolonged period of time. When I bend my knee past roughly 90 degrees, and place my fingers on the spot, I can feel a subtle popping of something scraping over the pointed anterior outside edge of my femur, just above where the patella rests when my leg is straight. I am pretty sure that the grating sensation is what causes my pain. I also experience slight pain if I remain sitting with my leg bent for a prolonged period of time. I am young and active and have been dealing with this for more that two years! I have taken months off from any activity (I broke my fibula, which provided ample time to rest) and have not seen any improvement with rest, time or stretching. I have had MRI's taken, and the orthopedist was unable to note anything wrong with the knee, so now I am considering Arthroscopic surgery, but my Orthopedist is not confident he will be able to address the problem. I have no weakness or other sensation in my knees, just this aggravating issue causing intense pain and inhibiting my life! If anyone has heard of anything like this or any effective treatment please let me know!
