I have just bought a Panasonic FZ45 Camera and have a problem?

I am hoping a user out there can help me here. Should the flash pop up automatically in low light?. I have set the flash to auto flash red eye reduce etc but on the display it is always showing a flash off no matter what scene or P or A or whatever I set it too - flash off symbol everytime. Am I supposed to actually manually put the flash on each time I use the camera?

I have the same problem I'm searching the net for answers.
No matter what I set the camera to the flash will not work & just shows the no flash symbol?
