car seems to be going ok.? But when i was driving it back home on the motorway. The car just wont go! The engine starts fine, but each time starting the car i have to step on the cluch to be able to start the engine.Once the engine is switched on, i put it into 1st gear and that was no problem. But, when i slowly put it into 2nd gear. The car just wont go and cut itself out!!!!Can anyone please tell me the reason!! Could it be an engine problem??

You DO have to push the clutch pedal to start the car. It's called a Neutral Safety Switch. It prevents someone from accidentally rolling the car with the starter if the transmission's left in gear. Read your owner's manual.

Are you sure you're clutching all the way down when shifting to each gear? Are you sure you're fully engaging the next gear when shifting?

If the lever's moving all the way but the transmission won't engage the next gear, it could be a transmission problem. I have a 2002 PT Cruiser with the same manual trans and mine had a drift pin work loose in the transmission at ~110K miles. This pin holds the shift fork that pulls the gears back and forth inside the trans. It wasn't too expensive to fix- about an hour shop labor. They have to pull the end off the transmission to get to it.
