I have just a voice plan with AT&T. I have an unlocked Iphone 3gs. Is it possible

AT&T will charge data fee? Ok so I just bought a used Iphone 3gs, I unlocked it and jailbroke it. I do not have a data plan. I only have a voice plan and unlimited text plan. I can make calls and connect via Wi-Fi. Will AT&T charge me for data tranfers? If so, how do I prevent this?
