I have in my garden what looks like an american robin.Is this a rarity and

how can i keep it coming back? It has all the same markings as a british robin,but larger in size with a white undertail and greyish feathers
 
Not sure about the American Robin part of your question, however i do know that you can by food specifically for robins to put out in your garden to encourage it back, you can get this at most good garden centres or on line eg rspb site and they like dried meal worms this is what my husband puts out and the robin comes every day. Hope this helps a bit.
