...thermostat but still loosing water? I have to keep topping it up even after short journeys, though it is not overheating noe, it is running really lumpy and feels like it's going to cut out. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
sorry, it's a K reg, I have checked the oil and this is fine, no 'mayo', which is what I thought it would be if it was head gasket, thanks for the advice.
 
I've got to say it sounds suspiciously like your head gasket is blowing.If there's no puddles underneath your car then it's going into the engine causing it to run badly.I had my astra 's done recently for 400 quid, i would suggest going to a different garage though as they don't seem to have inspected your car very well initially.
 
Quite often if a radiator was faulty, and you say you have a new rad, so then the old one must have been faulty before it was changed, the car would have overheated and quite often the head gasket suffers because of it.If there are no visible water leaks remove the cyl head and inspect
 
should be able to see where leak is dripping from or check it for a bad head gasket do a pressure check any shop or rent one at many parts stores just say i need my radiator pressure check for leaks or my motor is over heating and yes its over heating if your losing water most likey haed gasket or thermostat you sure it was put in right really if was one repalce it and didnt check the car id have to wonder about that place

Hi You do not give age of car.It may be a head gasket leak.
It could be a split in a hose that opens up when you shut off engine. Pressure builds up and a fine line split opens up. Next time you park car look under hood to see what is going on.Good Luck
