the WOF sound is a rubber paddle slapping wooden dowels. The closest I can imagine to that on a car would be something actually stuck in the tire that's slapping the wheel well each time around. Look for a loose mudflap or fender liner. If it's a more metallic clicking sound, then it's probably a CV joint. If you hear a grinding noise with it, then it's the brakes. Do you hear the sound only when the car is rolling, or do you hear it with the engine idling standing still? That will tell you whether it's engine or axle related.
