I have decided to bake a orange two tiered cake w/ choc butter cream. Can you...

...write on the sides of cake? Or would it just slip off?
I was planning to write with writing icing. I'm not sure if there's too much space on the top to write, because I'm also putting a toy gun on top (dont ask!).
The cake is a normal two-tiered cake size and is going to be covered with Betty Crocker Chocolate Buttercream. HELP!

I would make your own frosting. Here is a recipe for chocolate sour cream frosting that is amazing. It is thicker then betty crocker and will support the writing you want to incorporate into your cake.

Frosting:
1 cup semisweet dark chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
2 1/2 - 2 3/4 cups sifted powdered sugar

# Melt chocolate with butter in top of double boiler
over hot water. Remove from hot water; stir in sour
cream, vanilla and salt. Slowly beat in powdered sugar
until desired spreading consistency is reached. Makes
enough frosting to frost a 2-layer cake or bundt cake.

If you use canned BC frosting, YES, the writing probably WILL slide off.

If you make your own, you can make it stiffer and it should stay put. Be sure cake is totally and completely room temp (cooled) before frosting or you'll have a big mess no matter what!

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

1/2 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup cocoa powder
½ tsp. instant coffee granules
2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups confectioners' sugar
6-8 tablespoons water, depending upon thickness you want

With electric mixer on high, beat butter until fluffy. Beat in cocoa powder, doffee, and vanilla on low. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar, alternating with water, until desired thickness is achieved. For thinner frosting use more water. For thicker frosting, use less water.
