I usually don't get sick and even when I do, I recover quickly without having to take any medicines. Well, I have been doing everything I can think of to shake this cold or flu or strep throat off, but nothing seems to be working.
Friday - It was a cold day. I felt fine in the morning but started coughing as the day progressed. I spent all evening outside. By the end of the day, I was coughing a lot and felt miserable. That day I ate fried cheese on a stick, coffee, some stew and a lot of fruits which I had not bothered to wash. I thought I had gotten sick from the fruit and was coughing from the cold air. I called it a late night and slept on a heated pad and with a new blanket (although I could not muster the energy to change any of the other bedding).
Saturday - I woke up early, like 5 AM feeling like I'd just been run over by a big cargo truck. Headache, terrible sore throat, aching in my whole body, especially my neck, legs and back. I was coughing as well. I wondered whether the heated pad had actually caused the headaches and muscle aches. I now know that the pain was definitely due to the sickness, but I think I might have exacerbated the condition by setting the heat too high, kind of like giving myself a heat stroke? However, I had been having strange dreams all night, including one about me drinking freshly squeezed orange juice from Jamba Juice. So, I dragged my dying carcass out of bed and drove to Jamba Juice at 6:30 in the morning, but it was not open. My half-asleep eyes and brain be damned, I somehow managed to get to the grocery store to buy my usual cold-fighting supplies: orange juice, fresh fruit, chicken broth. By then I was completely exhausted. I had to sleep in the car before I could manage the 5 minute drive home (yikes!). Once I got home, I drank as much water and juice as I could without feeling nauseous (something that I greatly felt whenever I ingested anything) and went back to sleep.
I woke up about every 3-5 hours to check the time, drink juice or water or use the restroom. Otherwise I couldn't do much of anything. Even television was out of the question because I couldn't stay awake for a prolonged period of time. After about 20 minutes of being awake in any capacity, my body would just automatically walk itself back into its room and fall face down on the bed.
I had disturbing dreams again. I woke up for more than an hour, and was confused because I thought the dreams were real. I felt depressed and was in pain but decided to hold off on any pain relievers, which I have always had an aversion to.
Sunday - Sunday and Saturday sort of just melded into one big day. I didn't have any obligations on either day, so I had consciously decided to sleep as much as I could. Two main developments occurred. The sore throat worsened and I expelled yellow crap out of my throat. And, I started drinking chicken broth and eating gruel and oatmeal with raisins. I was still in pain and the headaches were bad, but not as bad as Saturday. In the evening, I felt good enough to read the Bible and pray with my family. I developed a runny nose.
Monday - Today was a great recovery. In the morning, I was still suffering from aches and sore throat, and runny nose. When I woke up in the morning, my whole face was as dry and hard as a rock, nasty dry skin flakes everywhere. I managed to brush my teeth but couldn't manage to shower. I canceled everything for the day and slept more. The urge to sleep was still very strong, with my body just refusing to stay awake for more than 10 or 20 minutes even after I had slept for nearly two days straight. But, it paid off. By around 5 or 6 PM, I felt very awake as I had not felt for a couple of days. I felt good enough to go outside again and buy myself dinner. However, that did not go very well because I suddenly had a big coughing fit in the cafe (I think it was the cold dry air; at home I could control the climate very carefully with air purifiers, heaters and humidifiers) and promptly bagged my food as soon as it was served, to eat at home. I didn't want to get any of the healthy patrons sick, and I was embarrassed since they probably found me gross anyway.
Anyway, my energy level is soaring. I feel almost good and normal now. I am coughing a lot, have neck and back aches, and have somewhat of a sore throat. But, no headache or exhaustion. My appetite has returned, and I was able to watch my favorite X-files and type up this account. I expect the coughing will continue for another two, maximum three days before going away completely.
Now here is my question. What exactly is this disease that I am suffering from?
My symptoms in order of how bad they are:
1. dry cough
2. very painful sore throat
3. intense headaches
4. painful aches in neck, back, and legs (my legs felt wobbly and it was hard to sleep)
5. mucus coughing on Sat and Sun, esp mornings
6. pain in nose, ears, and back of mouth
7.
Hey Bruce, then don't read it!
frankay, thanks, I never thought about pnemonia. That all logical.
I doubt it could be meningitis because I'm sure I was vaccinated? And anyway I thought meningitis is some kind of STD, which after looking it up, I guess it is not? Anyway that is a point to consider.
