I have been surfing the internet trying to find if there is a connection between my hypothyroid disease and insomnia and I think there is because of their connection with the hypothalmus gland which affects both conditions. My doctor will not give me any more help for my insomnia. I have tried many different medications and have been on clonazepam for a while and I think it has stopped working because I have not slept in months. I use Desicated thyroid for my thyroid (bovine) 90 to 80 mcg because my thyroid readings fluctuate between hypo to hyper. I also have Diabetes and cannot take Melatonin for sleep. I do not know where to turn. I came across something called Coleus Forkolinii which is used for sleep. Does anyone have any advice for me??? I am desperate!!

HI there! I wish I had an answer for you. I am hypothyroid too, but fortunately I am able to sleep. It's tough though. Sometimes I don't but it is because I have anxiety disorder. Our thyroids sure can be tricky to deal with. Just wanted to say hello and maybe someone will leave you an answer. :)
Take care!

Hi, Anitalouise . . . my husband is diabetic and takes Trazodone. He has insomnia because of chronic pain. This is a prescription and I am not sure if it is safe for people with thyroid disorders or not, but you may want to see if your doctor thinks so and if he believes it would help you.

On a more natural remedy note, my in-laws use "Sleepy Time" tea to help them. Not sure if you have this in Canada but you might want to check your grocery store. They should at least have something similar.

Hope you can get some good rest soon!

Lindaru :)
