When I was working, I anticipated a lay-off, so I saved up my money so I would have enough for my family to survive the year while I go back to school. However, this means that I have about $11,000 in the bank and that I wouldn't receive assistance. I realize this is the policy, but it's like kicking me while I am down (or at least not helping me back up).
So, how can I avoid this catastrophe? If I don't receive the grant, I can't go back to school. I don't have very good credit so I don't know if I can get a loan. Should I just take my money and pay months of rent in advance and get my car fixed now to exhaust some of the money? How much money is too much money? Could I transfer it to some kind of safe keeping account that can only be used for rent/utilities?
Nobody would use that grant better than me, do you think I deserve it or not?
I'm 21 btw and supporting my younger brother who was abandoned by his father, my daughter, and fiancee.
In response to what you guys have answered, I do believe that it is best to tell the truth, but my current truth isn't a truth that the government likes to hear. They expect your parents to help you through life but it doesn't work like that a lot of the time. What I am suggesting, is that I create a new truth by altering the status of my money. If I pay months of rent in advance, the money will go exactly where it would be eventually. That does not involve a lie or a felony.
The problem with the system is that it isn't human, it is a system of rules and regulations. Some people get the grant and blow a huge portion of it. I will not. I am just trying to survive and give my family a good future. The economy isn't well right now obviously, so I am trying to do the right thing by going to school to get a stable job.
Even if I don't receive the grant, I will find a way. It would just be beneficial to have. I've never had debt before...and I don't want it.
