I have an old Sanyo DC-F410U, but i have lost the remote, and i think it's in sleep mode, how do i reset this?

when i plug it in the display screen will light up, as if it's working o.k, but once i press any button all the lights on the display screen go out, and i'm just left with the clock. when the display screen is on after plugging it in, it flashes from tape to cd to turner and so on, but a little red clock and the word sleep in red are all ways present. is there any way to get this started manually. i have tried the reset button at the back several times even keeping it pressed for up to a minute while plugged in and while it wasn't plugged in. any help would be great Thanks
