12volts? I have an old Honda 125 that has an alternator with 3 wires off it. In the diagram there appears to be two winding coils - one for normal running and the other to boost the system when the lights are on.
I have been told that in order to upgrade to 12volts, i only need to replace the coil,battery, horn and bulbs-
Is this true?
Would it affect the life span of the alternator- which is near 40yrs old!?
 
You would need to replace the alternator/generator as well or have it re-wound.
There is a company called west coast re-winds that can do this for you along with recommending as voltage regulator for the generator output.
