I have an LG gossip with a Rogers SIM card. Can I use it with the iPhone 3G?

I want to buy an iPhone 3G but I want to stay with my minutes plan instead of buying a whole new expensive plan with AT&T or something. So I was wondering if i bought an iPhone if I can just use my old SIM card and put into the iPhone would it work? Or with any other SIM card except for the iPhone plan.
 
If the iPhone 3G is locked with a different network, you need to unlock it to swap with other GSM networks.
