I have an alltel LG AX4270 Phone Can I get it to work and activated with cricket?

I have seen this model phone for cricket service, and instructions on how to flash this phone for use with cricket service, but It has no ESN number.
What is the ESN exaclty?
I was told by someone at cricket that it must have an 18 digit ESN to work with cricket is this true and what is the signifacnce of ESN?
