I doubt it's the carbs out of sync because that will make the engine idle rough but it will become increasingly smooth the wider the throttle opening gets. With the fast idle and stalling, you might look for a vacuum leak. One way to figure that out is to pull one spark plug wire and see if the idle drops like it should. With the wire off, it will idle much slower than normal and may idle so slow that it wants to die, but that's normal. If it doesn't idle down quickly, replace that wire and pull another. If you have a vacuum leak, it will want to idle fast or not idle down because it's sucking extra air. When you get to the one leaking and unplug that wire, the idle will drop like a rock.
