I have an 2009 Alltel Motorola Razr ve20 thats on Verizon and they going to stop supporting it?

I don't want to get a new phone and I don't like Verizon. Can the phone be unlocked and/or used by another cell phone carrier?
by not "supporting it" I mean it can no longer be used to make calls on their network
