I have a strong desire to be in the marines, but I'm not sure how my life will be...

...after? The marines have been my dream for the past 3 years of middle\high school, but I don't want my future to pay the price. Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying the marines ruin your life. My family just always dreamed of me going to college and they might think I'm ruining my future. Also don't think my parents are marine haters or anything, they just don't want me to die. Also I know not all Marines see combat, but I want to. Also please don't send a sarcastic comment that doesn't answer my question in the first place. I also know that if your not sure about the marines, you shouldn't be there at all. I am sure about the marines, just not sure about what the hell I'm going to do afterwards.

I write this with sincerity so you must take it sincerely in order to understand, if not they're just rambling words. I had a friend and he said something similar a few years ago before he joined the military and I didn't know exactly what to say to him but I did give one piece of advice & he didn't listen to that one thing. I said to him "don't do like many do, go in there and waste all your money on drinking." He got out three years later and didn't have a penny ,he had his life yes, but he's 35+ yrs. old and still lives with his parents and is depressed all the time and is basically drifting through life like a lost soul. Granted money isn't everything but that's not the point. If he had been disciplined & saved his money maybe he would have seen others fail where he didn't & respected wisdom, while furthering himself in a maturing grace with more prosperity.
