I have a small oral cyst on my gums, what can I do?

I'm going to be making an appointment with my dentist, but I want to know if I could anything else to make it go away. I've tried gargling warm salt water, but that doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also if I do get my cyst removed, how exactly would they do that? Would they pop it and scrap it or what?
