I have a Samsung Solstice but i dont know the password?

ok i bought a Solstice from my good friend but he has no idea what the password is the problem is that the phone isn't activated so if i take iit to the cingular store they might think i stole it or something and take it idk lol but is there a way to reset it like the iphone type in enough passwords or use my computer to reset or something i really wanna take it to the store only as a last resort plz help me
