I have a samsung 58in Class when I connect the ps3 its only reading 720p why?

I can adjust the 1080p on the direct tv box. Why does the tv just read 720p for playstation even if the game is 1080p? I have HDM cables to the direct tv box and playstation. Theres no manual adjustment with the tv. Can some help or explain please
