i have a problem with my PlayStation the controllers don't work?

i have a problem with my playstation 2
i dont know why but the when i plug in a control to the ps2 or a memory card it does not acept them i bought the part where you plug in the controllers new and still it does not work.and when i insert a cd in, it works the controllers youst dont work

does anay one knows what is wrong whit my ps2 because i dont want to spent money if i dont know what is the problem
