I have a palm plant indoors and some of the leaves have started to turn

crisp & brown at the ends..? I read to prune cut 3 inches from the base which I did on some, then on others I just cut from where the leaves would be gone and left the rest of the stalk. Do I need to cut the whole stalk to let it start over and grow healthy or can it grow from the way I did it..or have I just ruined my tree?
