TV or do I have to subscribe? Basically can i replace my normal sky box with a Sky HD box and will it still work?

My tv is not HD it is standard. Can i still use a Sky HD box instead of the normal one. The sky HD box looks alot more nicer. Can i still record TV or do i have to subscribe for that from sky?
