...the key in the lock and turn it? nothing happens. I can't even take it anywhere because I don't know anyone with a truck or van to transport it and on top of that the battery is dead and to get to the battery I have to be able to raise the seat. I do hear a "clicking sound" sometimes but not every time when i push up and down on the seat while turning the key right and left. I can't even get to the screws to take the side panels off because they're under the seat as well. I've tried for hours hoping for a fluke that it would release but it never did. There is no warranty or anything the bike is 8 years old. What can I do?

First thing to try is sit on the seat and try to turn the key. Use a can of WD40 or other lubricant to free the mechanism.
If this doesn't work take a flat blade screwdriver of a size that fits the key slot (just). hammer and turn the screwdriver at the same time. you are trying to shear off the workings of the lock, so try to use more tuning force than impact. This will sometimes work.
If this fails ask a mechanic if you can borrow a "slide hammer" with a screw type fitting. You screw the screw end into the lock then slide the weighted part with force in the opposite direction. This will always work.
you will of course need to fit a replacement lock.
