coming from the fuel tank.? The noise is an intermittant thumping sound like a beat from a deep base sound. Also when I begin to fill the tank with gas, the gas starts to back up and pour out. Any advice?

Thank you!

Evaporative canister vent valve is bad, when noise appears,if loosen gas cap noise will go away, just to confirm where the source of it.The canister and valve is under, bottom of the trunk.

Here's what I would do to alleviate any problems in the future. Pull the gas tank out of the car, replace all intake hoses and vent lines. Check to make sure the tank is intact, that is no outward signs of rust on any of the weld spots that could lead to a leaking gas tank. Flush the gas tank. Go the store and buy a complete pump and float unit. Not too expensive and put the whole thing back together. If you do it yourself, cost will be about 200-300 bucks. Good luck- $over a 1000 if shop does it.
