i have a ford countour wont go over 35 could it be the transmition or what

else could it be? my friend is driving my car will i am on leave he called me and said the car is not going over 35mph what would the problem be i am home and my car is 200 miles away from me help?
 
It could be a number of things such as----when is the last time you had a tune up, has the fuel filter ever been replaced, a hose could have a pin hole in it and etc.
 
tell him take it to a mechanic.
depending on how old it is.
just ask for an estimate.

at 35, is the motor racing? then it is the transmission. or he's got it in low gear and doesn't know. a mechanic will likely point that out for free.
