I have a few questions about 'old' France, as I'm an awful historian?

Always pay attention in History class, kids. -.-
So I just have a few questions out of curiousity:
What century/year was Marie Antoinette around?
Were pirates a regular occurence in 18th century France?
How much different was 18th century France from England?

Marie Antoinette November 2, 1755 – October 16, 1793

Pirates were not IN France but around the coastline, West and South. The famous Barbary Pirates were based in Tunis, Tripoli, Algiers, Salé and ports in Morocco, they preyed on Christian and other non-Islamic shipping in the western Mediterranean Sea and the coast of Southern France.

They were in action until the early 19th century.

Nice, France was a huge slave market.

A difference between England & France in the 18th century was England depended heavily on capital punishment for serious offenses, France made much larger use of imprisonment. It is tempting to see this difference in punishment as somehow associated with the different systems of criminal prosecution: private prosecution in England and public prosecution in France.

Another difference was the aristocracy diminished gradually in England whereas in France they were violently uprooted and disposed of.
