I just bought a 14 week GSMD mix and he is terrified of everything including praise. 70% of the time when you walk up to him to pet him he will pee or even poo and roll on his back. We have horses and 6 other dogs on a 5 acre ranch I try to expose him slowly to everything but any chance he gets he will run and hide in his crate. This makes training very hard because he gets scared when you say good boy. I get that he is a verrrry submissive dog and isn't confident but I can't find any training methods that would work for him. He is not food motivated (scared to even eat his food) and isn't really into toys. He stay with me at all times so is mostly inside, but loves our other dogs. IDK what to use I've always had very confident "top" dogs and don't know what to do with him. I don't want him to resort to biting or running away (we are surrounded by cattle farms and he will get shot if on their land). I have never hit him or even yelled.
