I've never been in baseball before but i joined a church softball team this summer and i have a fast uppercut swing so i was wondering if that was bad. Last year i joined that team and got pop ups alot, i only struck out once. This year in phy. ed. we play softball and I put it a little more straight but its still a uppercut and i would destroy the ball every time i hit it. i like in one game i got 1 home run, 1 inside the park home run and 2 doubles.

well im not sure what the heck hitting close to your hands has to do with uppercuts. that doesnt make much sense. What you are more than likely doing is dropping your back shoulder when you swing. its common when you have the mentality of trying to kill the ball, which you already said you have. and yes this is bad, even though you can hit for power, you will fly out too much. One thing to fix this is change your mentality, dont worry about killing it, just hit it with a solid swing, swing thru the ball but dont kill it. Also there are lots of drills for fixing an uppercut, such as hitting off a tee only using your forearm, and swinging down. and dont worry your not too close to the plate, that makes no sense.
