I have a Direct TV HD Reciever!?

I just got Direct TV today, when I ordered it I ordered an HD Reciever.
While I've been flipping through the channels, I noticed on the channels that come in HD are full screen.
Any other channel comes in about half the screen size (in the middle of the tv) and has big ugly gray bars on the opposite side of the picture.
Is there any way I can get the ugly gray bars away and see the full picture!? Or was I suppose to buy just a regular receiver?

I have a HD receiver also. Most of my channels are full screen even if they arent HD channels. The technician told me that you would see the bars on the side if the program that you were looking at on a HD channel was not a HD program. Maybe you need to give them a call
