I have a contract that is about to expire with Verizon, considering a move to Sprint?

is the best move to upgrade my phone to the Droid Eris for free(after rebate and 2 year contract price discount) with Verizon, go to a Sprint kiosk, sign up for service, move my number, go back to the Verizon kiosk and the same day cancel my contract, pay the early termination fee of $175 and then sell the phone on Ebay for $400? Am I missing something here?
 
What you are missing is that if you immediately cancel your contract after getting a free phone, you will either have to return that phone or be charged retail cost when you cancel your contract. Free only counts when you extend your contract for two years and fulfill that two year obligation. Retail is much higher that the two year contract price even without any discounts that allowed you to get it free, which means you will be charged $469.00 for that "free" phone, not counting the termination fee of $175.00.
