So for an option for an essay our teacher asked us to compare the events of the phillipines vs. malaya. Since we are learning about the Cold War I can only assume they are related to it.

I looked on google but I can't figure out specifically what events he would be talking about. Do any of you know any events in the phillipines or malaya (probobly during the Cold War) that would be able to be compared and contrasted?

Thanks in advance!!!!
Yeah we don't have a textbook for the course unfortunately, he just said to compare and contrast malaya and the phillipines...it must be deeper than the cold war because its a college course called "war and society"

the phillipenes were under us protectorate during the coldwar and malaya was getting blindsided with communism from the soviet union

Both Malaysia and the Philippines had active communist insurgencies during the Cold War. The Philippine one was a group called the Huks (short for an incredibly long word). Partially because the USA was already based there, this insurgency was eventually defeated, despite appealing to many impoverished Filipenos.
In Malaysia, the insurgency was considerably stronger, partially because China supported it and because Malaysia has a lengthy land border through which supplies and men can be infiltrated. The Brits aided Malaysia in putting this one down.
I suggest you Google for material on each insurgency. There is a lot that can be compared and contrasted both on the communist side and on the allied side.

I just learned about this in school. The Cold War was a war of words and ideas. That's why it's called the cold war. If you have your textbook, look in it. I don't think the phillipines vs. malaya is related to the cold war. I'm pretty sure they're not.

Nothing really. That's why it was called the cold war. The cold war was all about threats, that's all.

Look up the Federation of Malaya. The Phillipines & Malaysia are both located in the southeast Asia region. Think about communism and the Domino Theory.

Do you know what years the Cold War took place? If so, you should be able to find whatever information you need in an encyclopedia.
