I have a cold tolerant palm tree that looks to be in trouble?

I bought a palm tree that has multiple trunks ( not sure of the type but it looks similar to a dwarf date palm) with the tallest being about 4 feet tall. The lower leaves are browning at the tips on a few but there are some that are developing a rusty color on the leaves and stalk..... I was told to water it every day for a while until it gets established. the crown leaves still look to be a bright green. Does it harm the tree to water the leaves and trunk.... what else might I be doing wrong so that I can fix the situation before it is to late
