When they do the diagnostics it comes up a P0420 code (Catalyst efficiency below thresh hold.) what should i do? replace the catalyst converter or the oxygen sensor and air filter???
the check engine light has been turned off many times, but keeps coming back. The price is not an issue as long as it fixes the problem. Getting ready for a 2600 mile trip, so i want the truck in its best condition.

I have this same problem with my 2002 pontiac grand prix. they told me its my mass air flow sensor. you probably want to replace it as soon as you can because it starts to eat up your gas mileage. ive had my check engine light on for months now and ive noticed a pretty significant drop in my mileage plus my car doesnt perform as well anymore. for instance, when i floor it all the way.. you can hear the car gasping for air on shifts and my revs die down and shoot back up. even in idle my revs will randomly shoot up and then come back down to rest. so yeah, if you have the money to get it fixed then DO IT because otherwise it will just start to damage your car for the worse

my dad had the same issue with his S-10 when he got it (used, but in very good condition). Turns out it all that needed to be done was to reset the built-in computer system. That's the problem with all these new fangled vehicles: they're pretty glitchy and it's inaccuracy can give you quite a scare.
