If I am typing a message and I get a new one from that person, it will not show up on my current screen. I have to back out, read it, and start the message over.

Apparently it is more like an "AIM" instant messaging, where if a new text is received it will show up on screen, similar to a BBM.
I am NOT talking about BBM here though. I'm talking about normal SMS texting.
I have Sprint. How do I update to the current texting?
