work together? I understand the whole concept of gear ratio. I have an old school 10spd schwin road bike.

What I am having problems understanding is
a) how the rear wheel continues to spin when pedaling stops " i.e coasting down a hill"
b) while coasting, say @ 5mph for example, how can a rider start pedaling"in correct gear" and then the pedals engage and accelerate the bike to say 10mph.
c) whats the "clicking noise" as the rear wheel spins.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
