The router doesnt really matter, although i prefer linksys or netgear. All you need to do is plug it into your current wired router (through ethernet) or right into an ethernet plug in a wall. I believe that optimum doesnt have a charge for wifi, but doublecheck just incase. Depending on the size of your house, you can get one for about $40. Since you mentioned Optimum i know you are in the westchester, LI region, so head to either the microcenter on crosscounty mall or the one somewhere in LI. I think they have one in NJ aswell. Microcenter is REAL cheap compared to other places.
