It started when I would drive on the freeway going 55 it would drop to about 45. Than couple weeks later started shutting off when i would be at a red light. Now its not bearly gettin passed 35 if im lucky and shuts off every time i stop making it impossible to drive. Im pretty sure by everything I have read it is the fuel pump, but is it? I thought I would be able to replace just a filter but read that the filter is inside the pump. Is it possible to clean it instead of replacing it? I dont think so because its electrical. So is my only option to replace the fuel pump???
Check engine light has been on sense i owned the car. (7 months) im pretty sure its not the gas because its been doing this for a couple months now n its just getting worse.
Ya only a 1000 dollar car, i would never spend the money to replace the engine. I dont think its tranny because it seems like when i press on the gass its not going to the engine, no shifting problems.

EW DODGE NEON
no affence but TERRIBLE choice on a car

could be either your transmission or your engine. it would be foolish to out your money into a car like that.

however my mother had a 96 neon and it got 85,000 miles on it and it died completely. so if you have about that amount of millage, then you should consider a new car. dodges are junk anyway. i would go with a chevy or a toyota. kind of a random suggestion but i hope i helped you

good luck

Just a couple of ideas to narrow it down. The engine computer monitors a lots of things, except fuel pressure. Is the check engine light on? If so, it may not be the fuel pump. Did you recently fill up with gas when this started happening? If so, it could be bad gas (I hope you kept the receipt?). If there is a code, it could be a bad coil. I hope this helps.
