I have a 99 cadillac deville and the gear shifter just got very stiff. Any ideas?

I bought the car in July w/90,000 miles on it and it now has just under 94,000 miles. I have not had any real problems with it other than the traction and ABS lights will come on sometimes, but if I restart the car they go off, and sometimes when I pull away from a stop the traction will come on for no apparent reason. I drive the car daily and it was fine one day and then the next day when I went to leave for work, the gear shifter was very stiff. The transmission seems to be shifting fine, it is just the shifter that is stiff. (The shifter is on the steering wheel)
 
need to check the linkage to see if something is binding. If you cannot do then take to a specialty transmission shop for a free estimate. In fact take to 2-3 to see if you get the same reply.
