...after warmed? i took it to a transmission shop to see why it kicked into gear and was told is not the trans, replaced the speed sensor and trottle positioning sensor as i was told would correct the issue, didnt change anything. also after the cars warms up it revs high, 3000rpm in park and neutral, and it does not want to stay stopped. if anyone has any opinions on what might be wrong i would greatly appreciate it. thanks :)

there are pins under the hood in most cars to control the idle. you can tweak it and turn down if you can find where it is in your car.

I thought ford had a recall on those paticular vehicles. Did you check with a dealer to see if there is one. They should be able to tell from your VIN

my guess would be the idle is set to high.
there should be a little screw that the butterly valve touches at idle.. back that off to 700rpm when the engine is warm.
when it's cold, there should be another adjustment for that.
Otherwise, the idle air control valve, which is bolted to the throttle body, it looks like acylinder with a connector on it is sticking or not functioning right.
the IAC valve pushes a solenoid out when the car is idling, when your foot's off the gas then the throttle plate would fully close, turning off the car, so when you stop, the IAC pushes a solenoid forward just enough to pop the plate open to keep things idling.

also.. check your alternator output.. should be past 13 volts. Why that? some cars, and your Escort is actually a Mazda 323, when the alternator isn't producing enough voltage, the car computer kicks up the idle on its own to try and force voltage out of the alternator.
