I have a 95 Ford Explorer and the AC will blow but the air does not get cooler....

...Is this something I can fix? Basically the air in the car still blows out of the vents, but it's the same temperature as outside. I have heard that there is a chance I can buy the freon to put in myself, but there is also the freon for later Ford's that you must be licensed to obtain.

Can anyone tell me what freon I need and how I can try and fix this before taking it to a shop?
 
If you do not have any refrigerant handling experience I strongly suggest that you take it to a shop.
The potential for injuring yourself is great, unless frostbite and blindness appeals to you
